Sierra Family Health Center (SFHC) is seeking a Bookkeeper to work closely with the management team to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, and California laws regarding payroll. The ACG assists with Accounts Payable, and processes payroll.

Essential Job Functions
- Payroll:
- Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employee’s hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
- Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, charitable contributions, and other deductions.
- Ensures proper processing of 1099 contractor payments
- Reconciles payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
- Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
- Records and processes federal and state payroll tax deposits.
- Accounting:
- Receives and verifies expense reports; reconciles expense and other financial reports with account balances and other office records.
- Facilitates payment of vendors, which may include verification of federal ID numbers, reviewing purchase orders, and resolving discrepancies.
- Ensures outstanding obligations are credited upon payment, identifies discount opportunities, and issues purchase order amendments or stop-payment orders as needed.
- Assists with accounting records and ledgers by reconciling monthly statements and transactions.
- Records entry of, verifies documentation for, and distributes petty cash.
- Work with Financial Controller and CFO to prepare organizational budgets and forecasts for presentation to Finance Committee and Board.
- Supports the Financial Controller in annual Audit preparations
- Other related duties as assigned.
Essential Requirements
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Proficient with QuickBooks Online and T Sheets or the ability to quickly learn payroll software.
- Must be reliable and extremely trustworthy.
- Must be able to learn other accounting software systems.
- Ability to maintain confidential and meticulous records.
- Experience with both indirect and direct expense allocations to grants and contracts
- Thorough understanding of local, state, and federal funding sources and the ability to locate potential sources for funding.
- Thorough understanding of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of effective grant writing techniques.
- Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resources.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to interpret financial data and prepare budgets and financial grant reports.
- Strong Excel skills to build budgets, prepare variance reports, forecasts, as well as scenario planning.
- Ability to ask questions related to understanding budgets as well as understanding variances.
- Ability to identify various options, trade-offs, contingencies, and ramifications to achieve goals.
- Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills are required to effectively communicate financial information.
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
Education & Experience
- Accounting degree required; BS preferred
- Two years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping and California payroll
- Understanding of and experience with non-profit business model
- Experience with both indirect and direct expense allocations to grants and contracts
- Experience with agency and organizational auditors preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
